House in Villiers
House in Villiers
Villiers, my current place of residence, is a village in Val-de-Ruz. This valley is surrounded by the mountain range of Jura, the second highest range in Switzerland – after the Alps, of course. Villiers, Dombresson, Savagnier and Cernier are some of the villages in Val-de-Ruz, and even though they are small and in the rural area of Neuchâtel, they have schools, supermarkets, doctors, restaurants, shops, gas stations, inns and car dealerships.

There are several trails for trekking on the mountains, all well marked. You can also go paragliding and one of the landing strips is between Domresson and Savagnier. You must go to Chasseral, one of the highest points in Jura – by car, motorcycle or bike, for the best prepared. You can also go on a three and a half-hour trekking, starting off in Villiers.

There are some farms/restaurants on the way, which serve typical food and also work as lodging. We stopped for lunch at Métairie de Dombresson, near Chasseral, and tried the delicious Swiss cheese fondue and had Sirop – syrup they drink as juice. The most typical is the mouthwatering Sirop de fleurs de sureau, made of flowers. Métairie De Dombresson is a beautiful place; it looks like a doll house inside and the couple who owns the place does the cooking. They are able to serve 20 people at a time. But get ready for the accommodations: a room with straw on the floor and some blankets. Just that! It is quite weird and I did not feel like staying there.

The view is amazing in Chasseral, you can see the three lakes at the same time: Biel/Bienne, Mürten/Morat and Neuchâtel, besides the Alpes. Choose a day with few clouds on the sky! See Villiers in 360°.

Take Note

In Switzerland, do not miss the cheese fondue, the Swiss wine, the sirop and the chocolate!
