The neighboring town of Búzios (RJ) and its nightlife is bigger, more popular and has more beautiful beaches. Even though the water is freezing cold, I loved Cabo Frio. One edge invades the sea with rocks and mountains like many others in Brazil; the difference is the thin white sand and the clear blue waters.

Curaçao was my first trip to the Caribbean. I was expecting to get into a small island, tropical, full of palm tree, several beaches… then I faced a huge oil refinery in an island with desertic vegetation!

In southern Brazil, on the border with Uruguay, there is the largest lagoon in the country. A water mirror of over 2.000 km2, surrounded by wetlands and reeds, designated a world freshwater reservoir by Unesco; a place for those who like peace and quiet, fresh air, nature and sports.

In southern Rio de Janeiro there are lots of hidden beaches, which deserve all the effort to be discovered. Some have access by boat, others by easy/hard trails – breathtaking paths through the rainforest. Sometimes, you can see the ocean surrounded by the green vegetation or a dense forest leading you to pleasant waterfalls, where you can renew your energies.

Trindade is a small fishing village between the Rainforest and the ocean. There are five heaven-like beaches, one natural pool and a waterfall, which can be seen within a day or you may stay longer to enjoy everything in no hurry. In the city centre there are shops, inns and restaurants. It belongs to Paraty (27 km away) and borders the state of São Paulo on one edge.

At the lighthouse of São José do Norte there is a sign indicating the zero point of BR 101, the famous national highway that crosses the country from north to south. Actually, it starts in Touros – RN, and ends in this beach in Rio Grande do Sul, exactly where the Patos Lagoon meets the Atlantic Ocean.

There is not much infrastructure in Fernando de Noronha, everything is kind of rustic, but who cares about comfort when you are in a paradise-like beach? The island is rather small, and the city is crossed by a 7 km-road. Vegetation pretty dry most of the time, due to high temperatures and little rain.

I was already expecting paradise like beaches in Ilha Grande, and it all came true when I saw that emerald green sea, exquisite vegetation and pleasant temperature. The best is to go trekking heading for fantastic hidden beaches, or full of tourists who came by boat. This is not a big problem, for whoever comes by boat does not stay long and it will be a desert beach again.
