After more than three hours in a bus from Beijing, we finally made it to the part of the Great Wall known as Jinshanling – accounted as one of the most beautiful parts. To be there, face to face with one of humankind’s greatest creations is priceless. Since you’re kid you must have heard about the Great Wall, movies have shown her, even cartoons, and, even though it can’t be seen from space, its engineering and ambition climb steep mountains and slopes, presenting herself in a good shape even after thousands of years under nature’s actions and other sort of weather influences.
One of the most authentic experiences I had in Guatemala happened in San Andrés Itzapa, a small city around Antigua. I was with my Spanish teacher Francisco and we took a “chicken bus” to a place known by the devotion of San Simón, a kind of pagan saint beloved by Guatemalans. The ceremony was an excellent opportunity to see the religious syncretism so strong in Latin America. Catholic elements such rosaries and candles mix with indigenous religion represented by incenses and offers.
Visit Perito Moreno is really an impressive experience. The noise scares and anxiety increases with each rupture. It’s a joy shooting the exact moment that the ice wall crashed from the glacier.
I have been to Vitória on the last holiday, but I didn’t know what to do until I got good tips from local taxi drivers. One of them took me to Fonte Grande Park, where I saw the city from its highest point. Upon a arrival welcome surprise: some white-faced marmosets were there. They were crazy for bananas offers by the tourists.
La Havana’s Malecón is the place where city meets de sea. Around there people fish, bike, walk, play, sing or sit on the wall enjoying the scenery and the movement. It does not matter if it is day or night, it is always crowded. I was paying attention and shooting everything when I found this urban intervention of the Cuban flag-shaped puzzle being disassembled… or maybe was it being assembled? The interpretation belongs to each one. What does it mean for you?
The Banespa building (Altino Arantes Building) has over 50 years of history. Today belongs to another bank and it is a must see for those visiting São Paulo. And best of all: the ride is free.
This weird lizard is very difficult to find. Called Thorny Devil because it’s appearance, it only hurts those who trample it. Its camouflage skin has the colors of the outback’s floor and vegetation. I had luck when I found it in the middle of nowhere while I was picking wood for the fire camp. There was an Australian who caught in her hands to show us how inoffensive it was.
Near to Barcelona there is a place with Roman Empire ruins. The picture shows an ancient amphitheater with the blue ocean behind. Today it is a museum for roman sculptures, which gives the impression of come back in time or like be in a movie scenery.
The history of the park with the world biggest concentration of geysers (those hot water flooding from the earth) began more than 11 thousand years ago. From that time to the very recent past, the Park was used by Native Americans for living, hunting and as route for transportation.
In the 90’s I discovered Pinheira and I became a fan. It’s a place for meet friends and enjoy hours resting on the sand. Among mountains and green sea, who sits on the beach has the view of Florianópolis island, besides de warm water, tranquility and nature. There are two beaches: Baixo and Cima. The photo shows Baixo beach in the early morning hours when fishermen come back from work bringing thousand of gulls in search of food. At the end of the Cima beach is the beginning of a beautiful 2 hours trail to Guarda do Embaú beach.
