Everything in Panama is named after it: the country, the capital, the canal, the hat… I have been there a few times, but only in the capital, Panama City.

Near the Panama Canal, one of the greatest works of engineering in the world, this metropolis has experienced a huge growth in recent years. It is a construction site on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.

The most astonishing things are the skyscrapers and the new infrastructure constructions.

Besides the canal, the city has other touristic attractions such as the historical district of CASCO ANTIGUO, the CAUSEWAY BAY, the CIUDAD VIEJA and the neighborhood of OBARRIO, with its night clubs and restaurants. The skyscrapers, the newly urbanized coastline, the casinos, the stores and the malls with products at incredible prices, are good reasons to visit the country. The city buses are pretty cool, all painted with colorful motifs.

Riding a bike along CAUSEWAY BAY is the coolest thing to do. There are four islands facing Panama bay, united by a path of rocks collected when digging the canal. It is awesome to see the ocean on one side and the city on the other.

At night this area is busy, and you can dance to the sound of reggaeton in many night clubs, but the most crowded place is CALLE URUGUAY in Obarrio, where you find fun for every taste.

The highways and urban infrastructure that connects the airport to the Amador district has been recently released.

CANAL is the most interesting touristic attraction, you can go by taxi. There you find a museum, where it is possible to watch the ships go by and the water elevators raising them above the sea level.

Around the city, there are beautiful mountains, forests and views, however, the beaches are not pretty. If you want those Caribbean and Central American paradises, you need to fly across the country – a one-hour flight, more or less.

Considering the growth of the city, we may think it will soon replace Miami and become the new business capital in Latin America. I wonder…

How to get there: Most flights from Brazil to Central America and The Caribbean are operated by Copa Airlines, which works in codeshare with Gol. All flights have a stop in Panama City. It does not hurt to ask for the ticket and stay a couple of nights to walk around and go shopping.
Shopping: The best mall is MULTIPLAZA, in Via Israel. Nice ambiance and the prices are as good as in the rest of the country. For bargain hunters, there are several other shopping malls and the region of AVENIDA ESPAÑA. Buying gadgets, clothes and perfume is really cheap in Panama, due to high commerce flow and the tax exemption.
