The Cayos Cochinos are a group of small islands that seem to be flooded. Cayo Largo del Sur is in the southeastern end of Cuba and comprises several islets, where you can have a boat tour and go diving. It is paradise! I had never seen such green water and thin white sand before. I went diving in a transparent salted sea with colorful fish, coral reef and a shipwreck – all this in pleasant temperature.
The argentinian side of Iguassu Falls is the coolest part of Iguaçu Waterfall, in Argentina. We took the train through the woods until the footbridges, leading us to GARGANTA DEL DIABLO, a hidden place with an impressive amount of water. I was scared of keeping on walking because it began to rain heavily, I pictured the river going up and reaching the footbridge, like some other times. I was soaking wet from the rain and the waterfalls.
Whoever goes to Foz do Iguaçu has the opportunity to visit 3 countries in one day or in three – like I did. When the rivers Iguaçu and Paraná meet it is possible to see the Brazilian, Argentinean and Paraguayan flags, each one in its own country. My main reason for going there was to see the waterfalls and the nature. As we had little time, we chose for a package tour. We set off at PARQUE DAS AVES – really interesting, you can get inside the huge cages, close enough to the animals. And, with (good or bad) luck, they can land on your arms. Whoever goes to Rocha – Uruguay, finds several options of leisure and accommodation – starting in CHUY, great for shopping spree in the freeshops and for those who like gambling. On the Brazilian side there is BARRA DO CHUI, a beach with rock formations and a lighthouse. Crossing the border, there is FORTE SAN MIGUEL with great architecture and a museum.
Located in a military area, Santa Teresa National Park is a fascinating place, designed with an aesthetic sense, keeping the ecological balance. It started in the surroundings of Santa Teresa Fortress, in 1762. After being abandoned and laid waste, there was a restoration in 1928, and has been taken care of by Uruguayan military men since then.
Sunday morning was an adventure at SOUKS (Central Market) and at PLACE DJEMAA EL-FNA, like in the adventure movies set in Morocco, narrow streets where people, horses, motorbikes, bikes and horse carts go by. You can buy whatever you want, from human teeth to chameleons. I felt like in a movie, all I needed was to be kidnapped and rescued by an American hero.
I took the one-day tour to Tarragona. The CATHEDRAL is located on the highest point and has a beautiful view of the city. A few museums like CIRQUE and I just loved ANFITEATRO, but all the rest was marked as a copy of the original. I was fooled, I thought everything was the real thing! But ok, the city has nice beaches and the view with the ruins is just amazing, people say it is quite trendy in the summer.
I was in Madrid, and took a Saturday to know Segovia in one Day. It was 80 km by train from Atocha. The city has a very old Roman aqueduct and the Alcazar
The most important tip in Peru is: haggle! When taking a taxi, choosing a package tour, going shopping and eating out. They start with prices for European tourists and then ask how much you want to pay. I did not think the weather would change so suddenly, neither that the sun would be so hot this time of the year (May).
Arequipa takes this name due to its walls with white volcanic stones. It is surrounded by the volcanos Chachanni, Misti and Pichu Pichu – some of the 80 existent in the area. In the center of the city there is the most beautiful PLAZA DE ARMAS I have ever seen in Peru, a big cathedral and volcanos framed in snow.
