Surrounded by maze of shops, smells, ateliers and thousand of people at Marrakesh’s Souks (Central Market), I came across this delicious candy stand. I tried to take closer pictures showing candies details but the owner did not allowed me except if it was from the entire stand. Nevertheless this image brings me good memories from the taste of losing myself in popular markets.
About housing in Marrakesh: pay close attention to this item. Choose to stay either in Medina – or outside it – the Ville Nouvelle (new city), but in modern neighborhoods, like Gueliz and Hivernage.
Six years ago I traveled to Morrocco and to this day whenever I smell cumin I remember this place. It is the smell of the country that sells many spices in the streets, a place with an aromatic cuisine and a culture completely different from mine.
Sunday morning was an adventure at SOUKS (Central Market) and at PLACE DJEMAA EL-FNA, like in the adventure movies set in Morocco, narrow streets where people, horses, motorbikes, bikes and horse carts go by. You can buy whatever you want, from human teeth to chameleons. I felt like in a movie, all I needed was to be kidnapped and rescued by an American hero.
Four 4×4 Pickup Trucks from Marrakesh to the desert, crossing the Alto Atlas mountains, stopping at touristic points and passing by Berber village, an ancient civilization. We drove 1000 km in two days, through arid landscapes that changed colors and vegetation along the way. Some regions did not have any kind of plants, like in the canyons 2700 m high and the rocks made an incredible symmetric design.
