About housing in Marrakesh: pay close attention to this item. Choose to stay either in Medina – or outside it – the Ville Nouvelle (new city), but in modern neighborhoods, like Gueliz and Hivernage.

Why? First because Marrakesh is divided into the old city, within the limits of the Medina (surrounded by the wall) and the new part – Ville Nouvelle. Of course your choice should also be based on your lifestyle and personal taste. Then you can choose a hotel outside the Medina, a resort or even one of the many Riads, old urban residences inside the Medina – the most authentic and quiet stay. They are usually charming and a good example of fine architecture, and sometimes luxurious. However, these hotels are small and with no window, you would have no breathtaking views. You cannot get there by car, so you should be able to carry your own luggage.

The riads inside the Medina are more affordable and come with rustic accommodation, without lacking the charm of the Moroccan culture. Outside the walls of the Medina there are the hotels of Hivernage, with more leisure options – pool and restaurants, 24-hour services and bigger staff.

Take Note

We preferred to stay in the Medina, at Riad El Wiam. Our reservation was made by Booking. What I have to say about my Riad? Great. I did not visit other riads, I cannot say if mine is better or worse, but we were much welcomed, the price was excellent, good location and the accommodation and the décor was amazing.
